About Us

Sunday Services

Mascot Wesley has existed for 107 years! Originally a very strong Anglo Celtic Congregation but now, we are a multicultural, cross cultural and intercultural congregation with 98% of Tongan heritage. The two languages dominantly used are English and Tongan. We have Niuean members who speak their language, Indian Fijian family that speak Hindi. There are many young people and children who are creating a very active environment and presence every Sunday.

AT LONG LAST - OUR VISION OF BUILDING A NEW MULTI-PURPOSE HALL FOR THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH IS BEGINNING TO TAKE SHAPE! SYDNEY PRESBYTERY AND THE SYNOD PROPERTY TEAM HAVE ENGAGED CONSULTANTS TO OUR PROPERTY BUILDING PROJECT IN VIEW OF THIS DEVELOPMENT.
Exciting News

Mascot Wesley 2019-2024 have been an exciting and a memorable period of time. The Congregation continues to experience revival and renewal in its life, witness and mission with the leadership of our  Ministers, Rev Dr Jason Kioa and
Rev Brendon Lukin who was inducted in August 2023 to work with us until December 2025. Brendon has inspired the young families with the teaching of Brass Instruments> We now have a Brass Band that lead our worship services, in addition to our Electric Guitar Bands. The Church Council and the Elders have contributed to the growth of the Congregation. This period as well has been very challenging with the COVID19 Pandemic coming and going. The Holy Spirit helped us as we navigated ourselves through different periods of lockdowns. Now the congregation has returned in full strength. The Congregation has rekindled and resurrected life can be found and witnessed in the new Mascot Wesley Congregation.
We have lay preaching training resulting in forty five lay preachers (and growing) leading worship services with the guidance of the Ministers. We have all embraced our Vision Statement and our Values Statements. They describe who we are.
Our Church Council is made up of 12 elected members plus the Minister. This
is the governance body of the Church. We also elected 19 Elders to serve until 2024. These  Elders share regular Sunday worship in pairs like Stewards (Setuata). Instead of one Setuata, we have nineteen! We have a strong Church Council and supported by six Committees which are populated by congregational members and are signed in to these Committees, having identified their different gifts to be used for mission in the world. For more details, go to the Church Council link.
Our Sunday Services are English Service at 10.00 am followed by a short refreshment break. The English Service led by the Ministers Rev Dr Jason Kioa and Rev Brendon Lukin alternating between them, with the newly formed Brass Band, the Youth Senior Band and the High School Youth Band supplying contemporary music and a vibrant worship environment. The new Mascot Wesley BRASS BAND now takes centre stage in leading worship twice a month in both the English and the Tongan Services

The Tongan Service commences at 12.00 pm. Tongan Services are led by 45 lay preachers
On the last Sunday of the month, we have Inter-generational Worship at 10.00 am which is turning out to be very popular.
All ages participate in sharing the scriptures of the day.
First Sunday of the month is a Combined Holy Communion Service of Tongan Hymns and English Prayers, message in both languages. Fellowship and lunch afterwards in the hall. All are welcomed.

Mascot Wesley Musical Gifts

The newly formed MWUC Brass Band practise every Friday 5pm-7.00pm. Mascot Wesley Uniting Church also has two bands. The Youth Band practices regularly for the leading of the English Service on Sunday mornings. The Senior Men's Band plays Tongan music both folk songs and gospels every week in Men's Bible Study and Fellowship. Both bands serve the wider community locally.
Our Tongan Choir practices twice a week on Saturday at 4.00pm and Sunday afternoon after the Tongan service.
Choir Conductors: Peti Liku & 'Aisea Paea.
Choir Master: Angahiki Lolo.
Assistant Choir Master: Fotolina Kioa
We visit and have worship fellowship with other Congregations with our bands and choirs. We have been asked to perform in community festivals and Carols by Candlelight at Mascot Memorial Park, as well as Presbytery functions and annual Synod Gatherings. Music is the air that we breathe, a gift from God for service.

PROJECT PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT:
The Formation of the Development Project Group (DPG) to facilitate requirements and potentials for the future development takes Mascot Wesley a step forward. Lisitoa Paea, Siulolo Koula and Toni Kauhiva are the Congregation Reps to this group with members from 3 members from Sydney Presbytery and and 2 members from Synod Property making up the rest. This is an exciting time for Mascot Wesley Uniting Church. Hopes and Potentials are alive! Our mission extends to the local primary schools as well with Rev Brendon Lukin teaching Religious Education in several local schools.
We have also built relationships with neighbouring congregations of the Uniting Church like Hope Uniting In Maroubra, South Sydney Uniting Church and Mustard Seed Uniting Church in Ultimo. We have combined worships with these  congregations at different times of the year.

Community

MASCOT WESLEY IS A VERY FRIENDLY, INCLUSIVE AND HAPPY CHURCH FAMILY.
SATURDAYS SOCIAL AND FELLOWSHIP TIME AND SUNDAYS ARE FULL OF WORSHIP ACTIVITIES AND MORE FELLOWSHIP OF ALL AGES.
WE SEEK TO REACH OUT TO THE COMMUNITIES AROUND US WITH OUR GIFTS OF SINGING, MUSIC AND DANCING, IN ADDITION TO A PASSIONATE WORSHIPING COMMUNITY.
WE WORK CLOSELY WITH THE UNITING MASCOT EARLY LEARNING CENTRE WHICH WE SHARE IN OUR CHURCH PROPERTY.
WE WELCOME ALL PEOPLE. WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS FULL UTILIZATION OF OUR CHURCH PROPERTY TO GOD'S MISSION WITH THE WIDER COMMUNITY
